- 1 c. dark Karo syrup
- 2 c. hot water
- 1 Tbsp. baking soda
- 4 c. flour
- 2 c. light brown sugar
- 1 tsp. baking soda
- 1 tsp. salt
- 3/4 c. shortening
Directions

1Mix first three ingredients (it should fizz).

2Mix next five ingredients and set 1 cup aside.

3Mix liquid and crumb mixtures together.

4Pour into a greased 9 x 13-inch pan.

5Sprinkle top with the cup of crumb mixture.

6Bake at 375° for 35 to 40 minutes.
