  • 4 c. flour
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. warm water
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 c. Grandma's molasses

Directions

    Mix the first 4 ingredients until fine crumbs (reserve 1 cup crumbs for top).

    Add water with baking soda dissolved in it and molasses.

    Beat until smooth.

    Sprinkle crumbs on top.

    Bake in a 9 x 13-inch greased and floured pan at 350° for 50 minutes.
