  • 2 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 5 c. flour
  • 1 1/4 c. butter or margarine
  • 1 3/4 c. boiling water
  • 1 3/4 c. molasses (sorghum, if available)
  • 1 tsp. baking soda

Directions

    Prepare or secure pie shells.

    Make crumbs of brown sugar, flour and butter or margarine, then set aside.

    Pour boiling water over molasses and baking soda.
  4. 4
    Pour this into the unbaked pie shells and then put the crumbs in carefully.

    Bake at 450° for 10 minutes and then at 350° for 30 minutes or until done.

    Makes 3 large (9-inch) and 1 small pies.
