Ingredients

  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 4 Tbsp. shortening
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 c. hot water
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 2 c. regular molasses
  • 1 1/2 c. hot water (boiling)

Directions

    Mix first three ingredients like pie dough for crumbs.

    Take out 2 cups of these crumbs for top of pies.

    To remainder of crumbs in bowl, add next three ingredients and mix well.

    Dissolve 2 teaspoons baking soda in extra 1/2 cup hot water.

    Add to other liquid mixture.

    Divide liquid into 2 unbaked pie shells.

    Put crumbs on top and bake at 450° for 10 minutes.

    Turn down to 375° and bake about 30 minutes or until top is dry and done.
