Ingredients

  • 12 oz. fresh or frozen shelled shrimp
  • 1/2 c. chopped onion
  • 1/2 c. chopped celery
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 3 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 (16 oz.) can tomatoes
  • 1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. sugar
  • 1/2 to 1 tsp. chili powder
  • dash of hot pepper bottled sauce
  • 2 tsp. cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp. cold water
  • 1/2 c. chopped green pepper

Directions

    Cook onion, celery and garlic in oil until tender but not brown.

    Add tomatoes and tomato sauce, Worcestershire, salt, sugar, chili powder and hot pepper sauce.

    Simmer uncovered 45 minutes.

    Mix cornstarch with cold water; stir into sauce.

    Cook and stir until bubbly.

    Add shrimp and green pepper.

    Cover; simmer 5 minutes.

    Serve over cooked rice.
