Shrimp Etouffee

Ingredients

  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1/4 c. celery, chopped
  • 3 or 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 c. melted butter
  • 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
  • 4 drops hot sauce
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sugar
  • pepper to taste
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp. thyme
  • 1 1/2 c. water
  • 1 1/4 c. tomato puree
  • 1 lb. raw shrimp, cleaned, deveined and chopped
  • hot cooked rice

Directions

    Saute all vegetables in butter about 2 minutes.

    Add flour, seasonings, water and tomato puree.

    Cook, stirring constantly until thick.

    Add shrimp; cook about 5 minutes.

    Serve over hot rice.
