  • 2 3/4 c. sifted flour
  • 2 tsp. cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 1 1/4 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 1 tsp. nutmeg

    Preheat oven to 400°.

    Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt.

    Beat together shortening and 1 1/4 cups sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.

    Beat in eggs and vanilla. Stir in flour mixture.

    Combine remaining sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg.

    Roll dough into balls.

    Roll each ball into cinnamon mixture.

    Place 2 inches apart on a cookie sheet.

    Bake at 400° for 10 minutes or until lightly brown.
