- 2 Tbsp. butter
- 1 1/3 c. yellow cornmeal
- 1 c. flour, sifted
- 1 tsp. soda
- 3 Tbsp. sugar
- 1 1/4 tsp. salt
- 2 c. milk, divided
- 2 eggs
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Heat oven to 400°.

2Place butter in 8 x 8-inch Pyrex dish and heat in oven to melt.

3Sift dry ingredients.

4Stir in 1 cup milk and beaten eggs, then stir in buttermilk and pour into hot Pyrex dish.

5Now follow carefully, pour 1 cup milk over cornmeal mixture, do not stir; bake 35 minutes.

6This is a cornbread with a custard layer.
