- 1 cake yeast dissolved in 1 1/2 c. warm water
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. sugar
- 4 c. flour
Directions

1Dissolve yeast in warm water.

2Add 1 teaspoon salt and 1 tablespoon sugar; blend in flour.

3Knead dough until smooth.

4Cut into small pieces.

5Roll into ropes and twist into desired shape. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet.

6Brush pretzel with beaten egg.

7Sprinkle with coarse salt.

8Bake immediately at 425° for 12 to 15 minutes.

9(For hard pretzels, use only 1 1/4 cup water and add 1/4 cup melted butter.

10Shape smaller and bake until brown.)
