  • 2 Tbsp. bacon drippings or Crisco or oil
  • 2 c. white corn meal
  • 1 Tbsp. white flour
  • 1 tsp. sugar (optional)
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1 egg, beaten

Directions

    Heat oven to 425°.

    In 10-inch iron skillet (on top of stove), melt drippings.

    Mix rest of ingredients until blended.

    Add drippings.

    Pour back into skillet.

    Bake 25 minutes or until done.
