- 2 c. sifted all-purpose flour
- 4 tsp. baking powder
- 1/2 tsp. cream of tartar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/2 c. shortening
- 1 egg (unbeaten)
- 2/3 c. milk
Directions

1Sift all dry ingredients in bowl.

2Add shortening and blend until size of cornmeal.

3Pour milk into flour mixture slowly.

4Add the egg.

5Stir to a stiff dough.

6Knead on floured surface 5 times.

7Roll or pat to 1/2-inch thickness.

8Cut with biscuit cutter.

9Put in greased 9-inch round cake pan.

10Cover tops with 1 tablespoon bacon grease.

11Bake in 450° oven for 15 minutes. Makes 9 or 10.
