- 2 1/2 c. sifted flour (self-rising)
- 1 egg
- 1/2 yeast cake
- 1 1/2 Tbsp. sugar
- 1/4 c. warm water
- 1/2 c. sweet milk
- 1 c. shortening
Directions

1Dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water.

2Add beaten egg and milk together.

3In bowl, cut shortening into flour; add liquid to form soft dough.

4Knead gently on floured board.

5Roll 3/8-inch thick.

6Cut with large biscuit cutter.

7Brush top with melted butter and fold into pocketbook rolls.

8Place rolls in greased pan and cover with towel.

9Allow to rise for 2 to 4 hours at room temperature or until double in size.

10Bake at 400° for 10 to 15 minutes.

11When done, brush with butter.
