- 1/2 c. raw white rice, washed
- 1 c. sliced, peeled onions
- 2 Tbsp. butter, margarine or oil
- 2 1/3 c. canned tomatoes
- 1 1/8 tsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. diced green pepper
- 2 whole cloves
- 1 small bay leaf
- 2 Tbsp. granulated sugar
Directions

1Cook the rice until tender (about 45 minutes).

2Meanwhile, cook the sliced onions in the butter until tender.

3Add the remaining

4ingredients and simmer, uncovered, for 15 minutes. Remove bay leaf and cloves and add the rice.

5Turn into a greased 1-quart casserole.

6Bake in a moderately hot oven at 375° for 30 minutes.
