  • 1 c. butter
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 c. applesauce
  • 3 c. cake flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 1/2 tsp. cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 2 sq. chocolate

Directions

    Cream butter and sugar.

    Add eggs and applesauce.

    Sift flour, soda and spices together and gradually add to cake mixture.
  4. 4
    Melt chocolate over hot water and add to cake for a lovely rich color. Makes 3 large 9-inch layers.

    Bake at 375° for 20 minutes.

    Ice.
