Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 c. margarine
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 c. molasses
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking soda
  • 2 tsp. each: cinnamon, ginger and ground cloves

Directions

    Cream together margarine and sugar.

    Add eggs and molasses; beat again.

    In a separate bowl, sift together flour, baking soda and spices.

    Add the dry ingredients to the wet and stir.

    If necessary, gradually add more flour until you are able to roll a small ball of dough in your palms without it sticking.

    Roll dough into 1-inch balls and roll them lightly in granulated sugar.

    Place on ungreased cookie sheets and bake in 375° oven for 15 to 18 minutes, until very lightly browned.

    They should be chewy, if overbaked, becomes tough.
