Ingredients: 1/2 c. shortening; 1 1/2 c. spice drops; 1/2 lb. golden raisins; 1/2 c. chopped nut meats; 2 1/4 c. sifted flour; 1/2 tsp. baking soda; 1/2 tsp. salt; 1/2 tsp. cinnamon; 1/8 tsp. cloves; 1/8 tsp. nutmeg; 1 c. sugar; 1/2 tsp. vanilla; 1 egg; 3/4 c. applesauce; 1/2 c. hot water

1/2 c. shortening
1 1/2 c. spice drops
1/2 lb. golden raisins
1/2 c. chopped nut meats
2 1/4 c. sifted flour
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. cloves
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1 c. sugar
1/2 tsp. vanilla
1 egg
3/4 c. applesauce
1/2 c. hot water

Cut spice drops in thirds.

Mix with raisins and nuts.

Sift together flour, soda, salt and spices.

Cream together shortening, sugar and vanilla. Add egg and beat well until fluffy. Add flour mixture alternately with applesauce and hot water.

Stir in spice drops, raisins and nut meats.

Grease a 9 x 5-inch loaf pan or use smaller pans as desired.

Bake in a 325° oven for 1 1/2 to 2 hours or just until done.
