Ingredients

  • 1 pound honey
  • 8 ounce rainbow sprinkles
  • 1-2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 pound (1 stick) butter
  • 1 Tablespoon shortening (Crisco)
  • 5 large eggs
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon extract
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 5 cups flour (approximately)
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated orange & lemon peels

    Cream the sugar, butter, Crisco and eggs.

    Add the remaining ingredients (except for the honey, sprinkles and lemon) until a soft dough forms

    Roll into approximately 12 inch rolls the diameter of a dime.

    Cut into 1/4 inch pieces.

    Deep fry in vegetable oil

    Strain

    Put strufalas into a pot

    Heat honey, mix in lemon juice and pour over strufalas

    Add sprinkles and mix.
