Swedish Heirloom Cookies

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c. shortening
  • 1/2 c. margarine, softened
  • 1 c. sifted powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 2 c. all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp. water
  • 1 Tbsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 c. ground almonds
  • powdered sugar

Directions

    Cream the shortening and margarine at medium speed of electric mixer until light and fluffy. Add 1 cup powdered sugar and salt. Mix well. Stir in flour. Add water, vanilla and almonds, stirring well. Shape dough into 1-inch balls.

    Place on ungreased cookie sheets and flatten. Bake at 325° for 12 to 15 minutes or until done.

    Dredge warm cookies in powdered sugar, if you prefer. Yields 4 dozen.
