- 3 cakes yeast
- 5/8 c. sugar (equals 1/2 c. plus 2 Tbsp.)
- 2 c. lukewarm milk
- 5 3/8 c. sifted flour (equals 5 c. plus 6 Tbsp.)
- 1/2 tsp. ground cardamon
- 5/8 c. butter (equals 1/2 c. plus 2 Tbsp.)
- 3/4 c. chopped citron
- 3/4 c. seedless raisins
- 1/4 c. maraschino cherries, halved
- 1 egg
Directions

1Mash yeast with 1 teaspoon sugar and stir in about 3 tablespoons of lukewarm milk.

2Stir in 1 or 2 tablespoons of flour to a cake batter consistency.

3Let stand 10 minutes in a warm, but not hot, place.

4Mix the rest of the flour with cardamon and sugar.

5Melt half of the butter in the milk and add sugar mixture; stir well.
