Ingredients
- 1 gal. cucumbers, cut up
- salt water (strong enough to float an egg, about 1 c.)
- 1 oz. alum
- 1 qt. sugar
- 1 qt. vinegar
- 1 tsp. spice
- 1 tsp. celery seed
- sugar
Directions

1Soak cucumbers in salt water for 1 week.

2Wash cucumbers and put back in jar.

3Add alum.

4Cover with scalding water and leave overnight.

5Wash pickles again.

6Heat one time the sugar, vinegar, spice and celery seed.

7Pour over cucumbers and let stand 3 days, adding 1 cup sugar each day.

8(These pickles do not have to be sealed.

9I usually put a lid or tinfoil over mine.)
