  • 5 large white potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 6 to 8 large sweet potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1/2 c. bread crumbs
  • 1 Tbsp. mayonnaise
  • 1/4 c. skim milk
  • 1 1/2 tsp. chives, freshly chopped or dry seasoning
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 3/4 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 c. shortening
  • 6 to 8 large bananas (firm, not soft)
  • 2 Tbsp. vegetable shortening (solid or oil)
  • 4 apples (preferably green)
  • 2 Tbsp. butter or bacon fat
  • 1/2 c. brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp. water
  • 3 to 4 c. cold, mashed potatoes
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 c. milk
  • 1 small onion, grated fine
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 c. bacon pan drippings or Crisco shortening, melted
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • butter or margarine to taste
