  • 4 lb. pot roast
  • 2 Tbsp. oil
  • 1 lb. sliced mushrooms
  • 3 sliced onions
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 1/2 tsp. allspice
  • 1/2 c. apple juice
  • 1 1/2 c. milk
  • 1/2 c. flour
  • 1/2 c. water

    Brown roast in oil

    12-inch Dutch oven.

    Add mushrooms, onions and spices. Place

    on oven and bake for 1 hour with 6 coals below

    and 12 coals above.

    At the end of 1 hour add the apple juice and turn meat. Bake for an additional 2 1/2

    hours. When

    done remove everything from the oven except the juice. Pour

    milk into juice.

    Mix flour and water and stir into Dutch oven.

    Heat to boiling (3 to 5 minutes) to thicken gravy.
