- 1 (1 1/2 lb. and 1 1/2-inch thick) slice round steak or chuck steak
- 3/8 c. flour
- 3/4 tsp. salt
- 2 to 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 1 medium onion, sliced
- 1 1/2 to 3 c. tomatoes or tomato juice or tomato soup
Directions

1Wipe steak with damp cloth.

2Cut into serving portions.

3Mix flour and seasonings.

4Pound flour mixture into steak with meat pounder.

5Heat shortening in frying pan.

6Add onion and cook until golden, stirring two or three times.

7Remove onion and set aside. Add steak and cook until golden brown, turning once.

8Return onion to pan.

9Pour tomatoes over steak.

10Cover and simmer for 20 minutes or until tender.
