Ingredients

  • 3/4 c. butter Crisco
  • 1 c. brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/3 c. ribbon cane syrup or molasses
  • 1/3 c. buttermilk
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 4 1/2 c. flour
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. ginger
  • 1 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. salt

Directions

    Cream shortening and sugar.

    Add egg, syrup, buttermilk and vanilla.

    Mix well.

    Sift flour, soda, baking powder, ginger, cinnamon and salt.

    Add to creamed mixture and stir until mixed well.

    Roll into balls.

    Dip into sugar.

    Press down slightly with glass dipped in sugar.

    Bake on greased cookie sheet at 375° until slightly brown around edges.
