- 2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2/3 c. buttermilk
- 4 2/3 c. flour
- 2/3 c. shortening
- 1 tsp. nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 2/3 tsp. soda
Directions

1Sift flour before measuring.

2Stir soda into buttermilk and set aside.

3Cream shortening and sugar; add eggs and beat until smooth and fluffy.

4Stir in nutmeg, vanilla and salt.

5Add flour and milk alternately in 3 or more portions, beginning and ending with the flour.

6Divide dough.

7On a floured board, roll dough to about 1/8-inch thick, cut with a cookie cutter.

8Sprinkle with sugar. Bake 8 to 10 minutes in a 425° oven.
