- 1/2 lb. (1 1/4 c.) pinto beans
- 1 lb. ground beef
- 1 c. chopped onion
- 1 c. chopped celery
- 1/2 c. chopped green pepper
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 4 tsp. chili powder
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 1 tsp. sugar
- 2 cans (1 lb. each) tomatoes
Directions

1Cook beans and drain, saving 1 cup liquid.

2Cook meat until it loses its red color, breaking it with a fork.

3Add onion, celery, green pepper and garlic.

4Cook 5 minutes longer.

5Add seasonings. Break up tomatoes, combine with meat, beans and 1 cup bean liquid. Bring to boil, reduce heat, cover and simmer for 1 hour.

6Serves 10.
