- 1/4 c. butter
- 1 egg, separated
- 1/2 tsp. vanilla
- 3/4 c. fine chopped pecans
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1 c. self-rising flour
- jelly
Directions

1Heat oven to 350°.

2Mix thoroughly butter, shortening, sugar, egg yolk and vanilla.

3Work in flour until dough holds together. Shape dough by teaspoonful into 1-inch balls.

4Beat egg white.

5Dip balls in egg white, then roll in pecans.

6Place 1-inch apart on ungreased baking sheet.

7Press thumb deeply into center of each. Bake 10 minutes or until lightly brown.

8Immediately remove from baking sheet.

9Cool and fill thumbprint with jelly.
