Ingredients

  • 1 c. sifted flour
  • 1/4 tsp. salt
  • 3/4 c. nuts, finely chopped
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1/4 c. shortening
  • 1/4 c. butter
  • 1/4 c. brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • egg whites
  • extra nuts, finely chopped

Directions

    Mix shortening, butter, brown sugar, egg yolk and vanilla. Add flour, salt and nuts.

    Roll in balls, then roll in egg white and extra finely chopped nuts.

    Bake 5 minutes at 375°.

    Remove from oven and press in center of cookie.

    Return to oven and bake 8 minutes longer.

    To decorate, frost and top with cherry.
