Tiny Apple Turnovers

- 4 small green apples, peeled and thinly sliced
- 3/4 c. sugar
- 2 c. plus 2 Tbsp. all-purpose flour
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/2 c. milk
- 1/2 c. salad oil
- hot salad oil
Directions

1Cook apples in a saucepan over low heat about 20 minutes or until tender.

2Combine sugar, 2 tablespoons flour, cinnamon and nutmeg; stir into apples and cook over low heat until thickened, stirring often.

3Set aside.

4Combine 2 cups flour, salt, milk and 1/2 cup oil in a mixing bowl; stir with a fork until mixture forms a ball.

5Divide mixture in half.

6Roll each ball out on a lightly floured board to 1/8 inch thickness; cut with a 2 1/2 inch biscuit cutter.

7Spoon about 3/4 teaspoon apple mixture on half of each pastry circle.

8Moisten edges with water.

9Fold in half and press with a fork to seal.

10Fry turnovers in 1 inch of hot oil until lightly browned, turning once.

11Drain on paper towels.

12Yield: about 3 dozen turnovers.
