  • 1 c. cornmeal
  • 1 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • 2 Tbsp. sugar or 1/4 c. molasses
  • 1 egg
  • 1 c. milk

Directions

    Mix all ingredients thoroughly and drop from teaspoon into very hot deep fat (370°).

    Molasses gives a richer, more robust flavor than sugar.

    A little cinnamon and nutmeg may be added if desired.

    These are delicate and tender when first cooked.

    A brief heating in the oven helps them the second day.
