- 10 Tbsp. (1 1/4 sticks or about 2/3 c.) butter, softened
- 1/2 c. dark brown sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 1 c. flour
- 1/4 tsp. salt
- 4 oz. (4 sq.) semi-sweet chocolate
- 1/2 c. finely chopped walnuts (optional)
Directions

1Preheat oven to 350°.

2Get out an 8-inch square baking pan. Combine 8 tablespoons (1 stick or 1/2 cup) butter, brown sugar and vanilla; beat together until thoroughly mixed.

3Press the mixture evenly in the bottom of the pan; bake for 20 minutes.

4Remove from the oven and cool in the pan on a rack.
