  • 4 medium sized tomatoes
  • 4 c. onions
  • 6 slices American cheese
  • 1/2 c. bread crumbs
  • 3 Tbsp. melted butter or margarine
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1/2 tsp. basil

Directions

    Preheat oven to 350°. Cook onions for 10 minutes in boiling water. Lightly grease casserole. Layer 1/2 tomatoes, 1/2 onions and 1/2 cheese. Repeat. Sprinkle with melted butter, salt, pepper and basil. Cover with bread crumbs. Bake 30 to 35 minutes, uncovered.
