  • 1/4 c. margarine
  • 1/4 c. chopped onion
  • 1 1/2 c. chopped celery and leaves
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1/4 tsp. pepper
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sage
  • 1 whole egg
  • 1 egg white
  • 1/4 tsp. thyme
  • 1/2 tsp. poultry seasoning
  • 2 1/2 c. crumbled cornbread
  • 2 1/2 c. soft bread crumbs
  • 1 can cream of chicken soup
  • 1 can water
  • 1 tsp. vinegar

Directions

    Melt margarine in skillet.

    Saute onion and celery in margarine.

    Add salt, pepper, sage, thyme and poultry seasoning. In large mixing bowl, combine bread crumbs and cornbread.

    In smaller bowl, blend cream of chicken soup, water, egg, egg white and vinegar.

    Add celery and onion mixture to bread crumbs; toss lightly, then add liquid mixture and blend thoroughly.

    Turn into greased baking dish and bake at 350° for 1 hour.

    (If desired, dressing may be prepared ahead of time, baked 30 minutes, cooled and frozen.

    Then, bake about 45 minutes when ready to serve.)
