- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/4 cup finely chopped onions
- 1 teaspoon finely chopped garlic
- 1 cup converted rice
- 2 teaspoons turmeric
- 1 1/2 cups fresh or canned chicken broth
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme or 1 teaspoon dried
- Tabasco to taste
- Salt and pepper to taste
Directions

1In a heavy saucepan with a tight-fitting lid, melt the butter and add the olive oil.

2Add onions and garlic and cook until wilted.

3Add rice and turmeric.

4Stir to coat.

5Add broth, bay leaf, thyme, Tabasco, salt and pepper.

6Blend well, bring to a boil and simmer for 17 minutes.

7Uncover and stir with a fork.

8Remove bay leaf.
