Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 1/4 cup chopped onion
- 1/2 teaspoon chopped garlic
- 1 cup converted rice
- 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
- 3 sprigs parsley
- 2 sprigs fresh thyme or 1/4 teaspoon dried
- 4 drops Tabasco sauce
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 1/2 cups water
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Freshly ground black pepper to taste
Directions

1Heat 1 tablespoon of the butter in a saucepan and add the onion and garlic.

2Cook, stirring, until the onion is wilted.

3Add the rice, turmeric, parsley, thyme, Tabasco, bay leaf, water, salt and pepper.

4Bring to a boil, stirring.

5Cover and simmer 17 minutes.

6Discard the parsley and thyme sprigs and bay leaf.

7Add the remaining butter and toss the rice with a fork.
