  • 1 cured ham hock or 1 small chunk cured pork side meat
  • 1 Tbsp. sugar
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. black or red pepper
  • 1 bunch fresh turnips
  • 4 c. water

Directions

    Place meat and water in a large pot along with salt, pepper and sugar.

    Boil until meat is almost cooked.
  3. 3
    Remove from heat. Cut roots off of turnip, peel and slice.
  4. 4
    Remove stems from turnip top.
  5. 5
    Put roots and tops together and wash several times. Place in pot with meat and cook 1 1/2 hours or until tender.

    Add more water if needed.
