- 2 lbs turnip greens, fresh
- 1 quart water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 tablespoon bacon drippings
- 4 slices bacon
- 1/4 cup onion, chopped
Directions

1Wash greens thoroughly, removing any grit and large stems.

2Place greens in dutch oven with water and salt.

3Bring to a boil and cook for 30 minutes uncovered.

4Add vinegar, sugar, and bacon drippings.

5Reduce heat to simmer and cook at least 1 hour covered.

6Fry bacon and crumble.

7Saute chopped onion until tender.

8Add bacon and onion and cook an additional 10 minutes.

9Serve with vinegar flavored with whole red pepper.
