- 14 oz. pkg. caramels
- 2/3 c. evaporated milk
- 18 1/2 oz. box German chocolate cake mix
- 3/4 c. softened margarine
- 1 c. nuts (walnuts and/or pecans)
- 6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate pieces
Directions

1Combine caramels and 1/3 cup evaporated milk on top of a double boiler.

2Stir mixture until melted.

3Combine cake mix, remaining milk and softened margarine.

4Blend mixture until cake holds together.

5Stir in nuts.

6Press 1/2 of cake mixture in a greased 13 x 9-inch pan.

7Bake for 6 minutes at 350°.

8Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate pieces on top.

9Pour melted caramel evenly over top.

10Crumble remaining mixture over caramel.

11Bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes.

12Cool slightly and cut into bars.
