  • 1 box German or Swiss chocolate cake mix
  • 1/2 c. margarine
  • 1 c. oil
  • 1 c. water
  • 3 eggs
  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (to be divided)
  • 1 (14 oz.) pkg. caramels
  • 1 c. pecans

Directions

    In a bowl, cut margarine in cake mix with fork.

    Add water, oil, eggs and 1/2 can of condensed milk.

    Pour 1/2 batter into greased and floured 9 x 13-inch pan.

    Bake at 350° for 30 minutes. Melt caramels and 1/2 condensed milk in double boiler.

    Stir in chopped pecans.

    Spread on hot half of cake.

    Add remaining 1/2 of cake batter and bake for 30 minutes.

    Make icing.
