Ingredients

  • 1 lb. chuck meat with a marrow bone
  • 4 carrots, sliced
  • 1 head cabbage, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 can plum tomatoes (large can)
  • 1 green or red pepper, chopped
  • 1 can yellow string beans or fresh if available
  • 2 c. lima beans or frozen
  • 1/4 lb. butter or oleo (optional)
  • 1 1/2 tsp. sugar

Directions

    Cover the chuck meat with 2 quarts cold water and boil 1 to 1 1/2 hours.

    Use vegetables that take longer to cook (carrots, cabbage, onion, pepper and tomatoes).

    When tender, add lima beans and yellow string beans.

    Before cooking vegetables, add 1/4 pound butter or oleo and 1 1/2 teaspoons sugar.
