- 4 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 cup packed brown sugar
- 1 1/2 cups butter
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 2 cups rolled oats
- 1 cup dates, pitted and chopped
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
Directions

1Blend flour, salt, and baking soda.

2Add brown sugar, margarine, eggs and molasses.

3Stir until smooth.

4Blend in oats.

5Roll dough out on floured board, about 1/8 inch thick.

6Cut with 2 1/2 inch round cutter.

7Place half of the rounds on an ungreased cookie sheet.

8To Make Filling: Stir until boiling: 1 cup cut-up pitted dates, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/4 cup water.

9Mixture will be thick.

10Stir in 1/2 cup chopped nuts.

11Cool before using.

12Spread 1 teaspoon filling on center of each cookie.

13Cut a cross in the middle of the remaining rounds.

14Place over filling-topped rounds.

15Press down on the edges to seal.

16Bake 12-15 minutes at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
