- 2 c. flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1 Tbsp. cocoa
- 1/2 c. Crisco
- 1 1/2 c. sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1/4 c. red food coloring
- 1 c. buttermilk
- 1 Tbsp. vinegar
- 2 tsp. vanilla
- 1 tsp. baking soda
Directions

1Sift flour, salt and cocoa.

2Add eggs and red food coloring. Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk.

3Beat until smooth.

4Add vanilla.

5Mix baking soda with vinegar and fold into batter.

6Pour into 2 (9-inch) pans and bake at 350° for 30 minutes or until center springs back to the touch.

7Split layers when cool and ice with creamy frosting.
