  • 1 c. Crisco
  • 5 eggs (save 2 whites for icing)
  • 3 c. flour (if plain, add 1 tsp. salt)
  • 1 tsp. soda
  • 1 1/2 c. buttermilk
  • 1/2 c. pecans, finely chopped
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 tsp. walnut flavoring
  • 1 can walnuts, finely chopped

Directions

    Cream together shortening and sugar.

    Stir in other ingredients, saving half the nuts and 2 egg whites for the icing and using half the nuts in the cake batter.

    Bake in four layers for 20 to 25 minutes at 375°.
