Water Chestnut Canapes

  • 2 (8 oz.) cans whole water chestnuts
  • 1 lb. thin sliced bacon
  • 1/2 c. catsup
  • 1/2 c. granulated sugar

Directions

    Cut bacon in half crosswise.

    Wrap 1/2 slice bacon around chestnut and secure with toothpick.

    Place on foil lined cookie sheet and bake in 400° oven until bacon is done, pouring off excess grease during baking.

    Thoroughly combine sugar and catsup (this will be grainy).

    When bacon is done, dip each chestnuts into sauce and return to cookie sheet.

    Place under broiler until sauce bubbles and browns slightly.

    Watch carefully!

    The sauce burns easily.
