  • 2 c. flour
  • 2 tsp. baking powder
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 c. + 1 Tbsp. butter
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 c. currants or raisins
  • 1 egg
  • a little water or milk

Directions

    Sift flour, baking powder, salt and nutmeg.

    Cut in butter. Add sugar and currants.

    Make a stiff dough with egg and a little water or milk.

    Roll out 1/4-inch thick and cut into 2-inch circles.

    Bake on griddle or in electric fry pan set at 340°, turning cakes once.

    When cool, sprinkle with fine granulated sugar.

    Serve warm or cold with marmalade.
