- 2 pkg. dry yeast, dissolved in 3/4 c. warm water
- 2 2/3 c. warm water
- 1/4 c. sugar
- 1 Tbsp. salt
- 3 Tbsp. shortening
- 9 to 10 c. flour
Directions

1Add together the yeast mixture, water, sugar, salt and shortening; add 5 cups flour to make dough pasty.

2Add enough of the remaining flour to make dough easy to handle.

3Knead until smooth and elastic.

4Cover; raise until double.

5Punch dough down and raise again.

6Make loaf and place seam down.

7Bake at 425° for 30 to 35 minutes (should sound hollow when done).
