  • 2/3 c. Crisco
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 3 c. sifted flour
  • 3 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. vanilla
  • 1 c. water
  • 4 to 6 egg whites

Directions

    Cream Crisco and sugar.

    Sift together the flour, 2 teaspoons baking powder and salt.

    Add to Crisco mixture with water.

    Beat into batter.

    Beat 1 teaspoon baking powder with egg whites until stiff.

    Fold into batter.

    Bake in 3 greased layer pans at 375° for 25 minutes or in a 9 3/4 x 13 x 2 1/4-inch oblong cake pan for 30 minutes.
