- 4 oz. white chocolate
- 1/2 c. boiling water
- 1 c. butter or margarine
- 2 c. sugar
- 4 egg yolks (unbeaten)
- 4 egg whites, stiffly beaten
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 2 1/2 c. sifted cake flour
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- 1/2 tsp. baking soda
- 1 c. buttermilk
Directions

1Melt chocolate in boiling water.

2Cool.

3Cream butter and sugar until fluffy.

4Add egg yolks, one at a time, and beat well after each addition.

5Add melted chocolate and vanilla.

6Mix well. Sift together flour, salt and soda.

7Add alternately with buttermilk to chocolate mixture.

8Beat well.

9Beat until smooth. Fold in egg whites.

10Pour into 3 deep 8 or 9-inch layer pans lined with paper.

11Bake in a moderate oven (350°) for 30 to 40 minutes.
