- 1 1/4 c. warm water
- 1 pkg. dry yeast
- 2 Tbsp. sugar
- 2 Tbsp. shortening
- 2 tsp. salt
- 3 c. sifted flour
Directions

1Measure the water in a large bowl.

2Sprinkle in the yeast and stir until dissolved.

3Add sugar, Crisco shortening, salt and half the flour.

4Beat well.

5Add remaining flour and blend until smooth. Scrape batter from side of bowl; cover with a cloth and let rise in a warm place until double in bulk.

6Stir down the batter and spread evenly in a greased loaf pan (9 x 5 x 3-inch).

7Batter will be sticky.

8Let rise in warm place until batter reaches 1-inch from top of pan.

9Bake in moderate oven (375°) for 45 to 50 minutes or until brown.
