Ingredients
- 1 pkg. active dry yeast
- 1/4 c. water
- 2 1/2 c. hot water
- 1/4 c. brown sugar
- 1/4 c. honey
- 3 tsp. salt
- 1/4 c. shortening
- 3 c. stirred whole wheat flour
- 5 c. sifted all-purpose white flour
Directions

1Soften active dry yeast in 1/4 cup warm (85°) water.

2Combine hot water, sugar, salt, honey and shortening.

3Stir in whole wheat flour and 1 cup white flour.

4Beat well.

5Stir in softened yeast. Add enough remaining flour to make moderately stiff dough.

6Turn out on lightly floured surface; knead until smooth and satiny (10 to 12 minutes).

7Shape dough in a ball; place in lightly greased bowl.

8Turn once to grease surface.

9Cover.

10Let rise in warm place until double in bulk.
